The existing space was a typical tarmac playground with a lean to attached to the classroom, our brief was to provide all weather play space with changes in height, climbing opportunities, loose material surfaces and smaller social spaces with seating.

We enclosed the Lean To with a combination of timber and roll up canvas blinds, it is being used for informal learning, play and as a changing space before going back into the classroom. The floor has been decked to provide and warm level surface.

Sand is a perfect loose material choice for a playgrounds, it can be manipulated in play, acoustically absorbs noise and is a safety surface as it complies with EN1176 and EN1177 safety standards if installed to a certain depth. The climbing structure has been designed to be  challenging for this user age group.
