First in 10 of the best National Trust Play Areas

Our Tolkien inspired play area at The Vyne in Hampshire is listed first in the Top 10 National Trust property owned play areas

Three years ago The National Trust commissioned our collegue Michael Follett at  OPAL to write their Play Design Brief as a guide to to developing a more playful approach for the whole organisation. Since then play areas have been developed at propeerties accross the country and Green Play Project are involved in the development of play at 5 properties.

‘We love the new playground. It’s added that extra element of fun into our visits and it’s brilliant to play imaginative games with my son. His favourite part is the stream!’
– Rachael Kitchen, mum to Peter, aged 3

A long forgotten area of walled garden at The Vyne has been transformed into the Hidden Realm – a brilliant adventure play area based on the fantasy landscapes of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, including jungle, mountain and stream. Kids will love exploring the network of tunnels with sound tubes, the ‘Iron Age’ wooden fort and the bridge, wide slide, trickling stream and large sandpit.

“It was a pleasure to work with Green Play Project to develop the innovative play area at the Vyne. They were great at co-creation and putting our concepts in to a design and then delivering them on budget and to a tight schedule, despite challenging weather conditions. I would love to work with Green Play Project again and would recommend them to anyone looking for innovative and imaginative play interventions.”
