New early years provision at Charborough Road Primary School completed

A new nursery at Charborough Road Primary School in Filton has been completed thanks to a partnership between South Gloucestershire Council and The Olympus Academy Trust.

The Olympus Academy Trust has delivered the nursery with support from a £400,000 grant from South Gloucestershire Council towards the capital costs of establishing it.

It will provide the local community with access to high quality, pre-school education provision for up to 26, three and four-year-old children. The nursery opened at the start of September 2021 and is now fully operational in state-of-the-art facilities.

The nursery is co-located within the existing primary school with teaching staff available to support learning and provide pupils with the best start to their education.

New facilities include a dedicated early years classroom and a secure outside learning space, along with direct access so pupils and parents can enter and leave independently from the main school building.

It forms part of our vision to work in partnership with schools and early years settings to provide inspirational teaching and learning spaces throughout South Gloucestershire.

Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Employment, Cllr Erica Williams recently joined Dave Baker, CEO of Olympus Academy Trust and members of the Charborough Road Primary and Olympus Academy teams for a tour of the new facilities and outside space.

Cllr Williams said: “I was delighted to be shown around by members of Olympus Academy Trust and staff and pupils from the school, and I was extremely impressed by the outstanding new, pre-school facilities on show.

“Raising educational standards and providing children with the best possible start in life is our number one priority, and these new nursery and reception facilities will provide local children with a modern learning environment which will help to inspire them as they begin their education.

“We’ve worked in partnership with Olympus Academy Trust and Charborough Road Primary School to deliver this project in what has been an exemplar of how local authorities and academies can work together to deliver first-class early years settings for the benefit of our communities”

Dave Baker, Chief Executive Officer of The Olympus Academy Trust, said: “This project is a brilliant example of being able to work in partnership with the local authority to improve provision and meet the needs of one of our local communities. We are grateful for the support South Gloucestershire Council has given to enable the nursery at Charborough Road Primary School to be completed.”
