The Parish Council at Longparish in Hampshire had been creatively fundraising for many years to renew the equipment in the village and we first created a design for them early 2019. In 2020 we were commissioned to build the design and the work was completed a few weeks ago. Many of the local families once played there as children and wanted to be involved in creating a play space for the next village generation.
It was really important was that is was fully inclusive space and we have selected items and designed bespoke equipment that were DDA accessible whilst still being inclusive to all ages.
There is a roundabout suitable for wheelchair users, the lower Fort Tower platform can be climbed easily with good handrails and it has a wide slide for assisted sliding. The basket swing is suitable for every age and ability and the paths have clearly defined colours to denote a safe route. We selected two colours of bonded rubber mulch for the safety surfaces and pedestrian path, this enabled a smooth, seamless link to all the new equipment making access easy and all weather.
All equipment is accessible and progressive, allowing children of different ages to play together and test their physical abilities.
