St Matthew’s School in Westminster needed some outdoor storage and somewhere for creative play as they are developing their play provision with the help of the OPAL Outdoor play programme. We were asked to design and install a bespoke tin roofed timber lean-to shelter over a row of play houses during the Easter holidays to minimise disruption to the school.
The little row of shops are interconnected and have doors, windows, cupboards, shelves and counters for role play. The front of each shop is hinged like a doll’s house to allow it to open up so that the school can wheel their large loose parts storage boxes in and out.
The houses has been designed to exactly fit this space and left un painted to keep the look simple. Chalkboards allow signs to be written to personalise the shops and can be changed as required.
