Rainwater harvesting at Fishponds Academy

Rainwater harvesting in school for play

Children love playing with water, it can intrigue and captivate imagination. We have harvested rain water from this school roof and used it to make a simple, cost effective water play feature. The rain water comes from a downpipe through a series of SUDS features which slow the flow of water whilst cleansing away any silt or pollutants before flowing down a long shallow rill to a wide gravel pit. A wide boardwalk allows pedal access to the whole site and is a great spot to sit at the edge of the gravel pit. We have sown wildflower seed on the bare earth areas which will look colourful next summer.
