Forestry England commissioned us to design three pieces of toddler play equipment to sit alongside the new cafe building at Wendover Woods. We have built a Bird Box den with slide, a balance trail and a pile of oak logs for scrambling and climbing, all designed to compliment the architecture of the building and blend with the surrounding natural environment.
This collection of oak branches have been washed, sanded and carved to form a completely natural toddler climbing frame. There are frayed ropes hanging down to suggest vines and brambles and carvings of woodland creatures by our resident artist Yuseph.
Climbing trees rather than fixed play equipment requires more focus and concentration which will help boost children’s physical strength, decision making and confidence.
There are 3 elements to this design; a Bird Box den with slide, a balance trail and a pile of oak logs for scrambling and climbing. The round pole beams, planks and timber boxes create a natural balance trail to link the oak adventures with the Bird Box. The little Bird Box is a robinia and larch den with a stag oak covered roof. It has a ladder with rope hand rail to access and a slide.
