Taking the existing Oak tree as inspiration we have designed two structures that provide the children with role play opportunities and climbing in this woodland themed space at the front of the school. The two story den has a scramble net, timber tunnel and stepping logs to provide a variety of routes and challenges. The role play stage provides a social space designed to match the treehouse and add to the natural look of the play area. Coloured Perspex windows at the back allow for views out and let coloured light shine in and we have clad the exterior with oak slab wood to create the effect of timber framing.
In the second area we have added storage sheds and a messy kitchen corner, set within a woodchip surface which has real-life elements including a sink, oven, hob and shelves for storage, providing a space for role play opportunities. The back edge has open storage which can easily be accessed by the children. Next to this is a sand pit and beyond a planting and social seating area provides a space for growing sensory plants and a place for quieter play away from the more active play.
