The Elf Houses

Jeskyns Community Woodland in Kent had an existing play landscape of earthworks and topography, however the climbing element was in need of replacement and the site was not accessible for less able users.

Our proposal included a new path and boardwalk passing right through the playground to redirect footfall away from the grass banks, reducing wear and erosion to the banks. The new boardwalk is a non slip level route from gate to the adjacent Elf and Fairy Village, allowing less able users and wheels to better access the site.

The Elf Houses we designed are Scandinavian inspired structures painted internally in bright colours to invite children in and provide a flash of colour amongst the muted palette of the woodland and timbers of the play area. The houses include ladders, climbing net and slide to provide active play, along with encouraging imaginative play opportunities.
